Tom Sellar is Associate Professor of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism and editor of THEATER magazine, published by Yale School of Drama/Yale Repertory Theatre and Duke University Press. Under his editorship since 2003, THEATER has published issues on a wide range of contemporary topics and global artists. (A complete list can be found on theatermagazine.org) Sellar’s reporting and criticism appears regularly in national publications including the New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, TheatreForum, and American Theatre. Since 2001 he has been a frequent contributor to the Village Voice, covering theater and performing arts. A New York City native, Sellar received his M.F.A. and D.F.A. from Yale, where he was twice awarded the John W. Gassner Memorial Prize for critical writing. A member of the PEN American Center and the International Federation for Theatre Research,
he is currently completing Mind Attacks, a monograph on Richard Foreman and the Ontological-Hysteric Theater, and researching new performance work in Eastern Europe, supported by a grant from the Trust
for Mutual Understanding. He serves as a consulting editor for Faber & Faber, an imprint of Farrar Straus Giroux.
